L-BF boys hoops split games at home
Littlefork-Big Falls’ boys basketball team is now 5-2 after splitting two recent home games.
On Tuesday night, the Vikings overcame a 29-21 halftime deficit to lead by a point in the second half, before losing to nearby rival Bigfork, 64-49.
“We held in there defensively,” said L-BF head coach Jeff Maish. “We just couldn’t bury a shot.”
Maish attributed the Vikings’ loss to missing several shots near the basket.
Garrett Larson led L-BF in scoring with 24 points.
On Friday night, the Vikings led by 31 at halftime before defeating Northland, 74-42.
Larson led the Vikings with 27 points, followed by Taylor DeLack with 19.
L-BF went 19-26 from the free-throw line.
The Vikings on Saturday afternoon will host Lakeview Christian Academy, which features junior guard Anders Broman, who has already scored more than 3,000 career points.
Falls girls hoops beat by Hibbing
After leading by as much as nine points in the first half, International Falls’ girls basketball team ended up losing Friday at Hibbing, 79-57.
The Bluejackets, who led 43-34 at halftime, outshot the Broncos from the field, 29-62 (47 percent) compared to 24-65 (38 percent).
Hibbing also took advantage of having more scoring opportunities than the Falls at the charity stripe, making 17-23 compared to 6-8.
Jenna Vergeldt recorded a “double-double” for the Broncos by scoring 15 points and hauling in 16 rebounds. Hanna Heibel added 10 points.
Four Bluejacket players scored in double figures led by Kristy Rudberg with 19.
The Falls, which dropped to 8-5, returns to action Thursday at Eveleth-Gilbert.
