International Falls’ girls swimming and diving team wrapped up its regular season schedule Tuesday by winning the “Pumpkin Quad” hosted by Mesabi East.

The Broncos finished on top with 394 points, followed by Chisholm (274), Mesabi East (272) and Northeast Range (210).

In the nine individual events, the Falls picked up a pair of victories. Seniors Morgan Bruess and Ashley Hasbargen won their respective specialty events, the 100 backstroke (1:10.01) and 100 breaststroke (1:19.32).

Broncos head coach Jill Herzig said she shuffled around some swimmers into events in which they normally don’t compete.

For instance, senior Rachel Adams and sophomore Breanna Shofner, two of the Falls’ top short-distance swimmers, didn’t swim individually in either the 50 or 100 freestyle.

Adams placed second in the 200 freestyle.

Other second-place individual finishes for the Broncos came from Sarah Todd in the 200 individual medley (2:38.72), Courtney Klow in the 100 backstroke (1:14.14) and Clara Wenger in the diving competition (129.35).

Shofner placed third in the 200 individual medley (2:41.94) and 100 breaststroke (1:21.22).

Falls’ other third-place individual finishes included:

• Blair Johnson, 50 freestyle, 29.29.

• Jessie Hell, diving, 116.4.

• Klow, 100 butterfly, 1:17.1.

• Therese Youso, 100 freestyle, 1:04.19.

• Kari Arnold, 500 freestyle, 6:42.28.

The Broncos will be in the Sections competition next week at Grand Rapids with the preliminaries taking place Thursday and the finals next Saturday.
