After a new rule on the minimum pool depth to use starting blocks resulted in International Falls getting the proverbial cold shoulder to be able to host the “Shiverland” junior high girls swimming and diving invitational, the Broncos headed to Grand Rapids on Saturday when they placed third out of seven teams.

Hibbing won the meet with 544 points, followed by the host school Grand Rapids (534), the Falls (447), Mesabi East (346), Virginia (264), Bemidji (245) and Eveleth-Gilbert (242).

Broncos head coach Jill Herzig said the meet involved girls in grades 7-9 competing in individual events by grade and combining the grades for relay races.
