Rainy River Community College’s volleyball team picked up a pair of home match victories against two opponents in the Minnesota College Athletic Conference’s Northern Division.
On Monday, the Voyageurs swept Mesabi Range, 25-17, 25-18, 25-21.
“(Winning two consecutive conference matches at home) builds your confidence,” said RRCC Mel Millerbernd. “(Mesabi Range is) a very good team. ...We made a lot of progress by beating them because they were ahead of us (in the MCAC Northern Division).”
The Voyageurs improved to 4-3 in the MCAC — the same conference record as Mesabi Range — and 12-10 overall.
Haylee Gates led the Voyageurs with 16 kills. Tiffany Schumacher added 10 kills and 15 digs. Kelly Sorensen recorded 20 digs, while Nakita Estling had 37 set assists.
“We had some nice hits, and we were really aggressive at the net,” Millerbernd said.
RRCC 3, Vermilion 0
The Voyageurs swept Friday’s home match against Vermilion Community College, 25-16, 25-11, 25-8.
“Vermilion has been struggling a little bit with numbers and injuries, so we knew we had to come out strong,” Millerbernd said.
RRCC plays today at 6:30 p.m. against Northland in Thief River Falls.
Northland, which defeated the Voyageurs in three straight games when the two teams faced each other last month in the RRCC gym, has won its first seven conference games and is in first place in the MCAC Northern Division.
