An annual event held on Independence Day weekend in International Falls, the Bronco 5K Run/Walk, is slated to begin this Saturday at 9 a.m.

The entry fee for the annual fund-raiser benefiting the Falls track and field teams is now $20 without a T-shirt.

Registrations will be accepted at the track the evening before the race on Friday from 6-7 p.m., when those having preregistered may pick up their bib numbers and T-shirts.

Falls girls track and field coach Jen Erickson said there will also be an opportunity to sign up the day of the race Saturday beginning at 8:15 a.m., before the race starts.

In anticipation of road construction, a new route has been laid out for this year’s race, which starts behind the Falls High School near the track entrance and will circle around the west end of FHS taking a right onto 11th Street.

The course will follow 11th Street before taking a right onto Sixth Avenue at the Kerry Park entrance. From there the route will go on various roads to loop back to the high school.

Upon returning to the rear access road to the high school, the route will continue to the track entrance and finish with one lap on the track.

A map of this year’s race course is posted on-line at:

A 400- and 800-meter “Fun Run” for kids is scheduled on the track after the 5K Run/Walk at approximately 10 a.m. The Fun Run is free for kids, though T-shirts will only be provided to those having preregistered for $8.
