A Falls High School physical education teacher who coached the girls hockey team for three seasons is being recommended as the next head coach of the Bronco boys hockey team.

The Falls School Board will consider approving Bruce Elson to the position when the board meets Monday.

If approved, Elson would replace Mike Bolstad, who resigned after one season with a record 10-15-1.

Elson had compiled an overall record of 29-47-2 when he was the head coach of the girls hockey team from 2006-09. He had led the Broncos to their first non-losing season in the first 10 years of the girls program, finishing 13-13-1 in 2007-08.

His recent youth hockey coaching experience includes being on the staff of the Red River Valley Jr. Stars AAA Hockey organization.

Elson declined to comment on his recommendation to be the next Bronco boys head hockey coach until after the board’s vote on Monday.

The board is also being asked to approve filling two boys hockey assistant coaching positions. The previous two assistants, George McDonald and Mark Glowack, resigned following the 2010-11 season.

Tom Biondich and Ross Johnson, who had played hockey for the Broncos while in high school, have been recommended as assistant coaches.

FHS athletic director Don Rolando said a five-member committee comprised of a school board member, two coaches, a community member and himself had been formed to interview candidates for the three vacant boys hockey coaching positions.
