International Falls Fusion 12U fastpitch softball players Madison Truty, Emily Treat and Allison Taschuk returned from the 2011 Arrowhead 12U All-Star night in Grand Rapids after being on the winning side of two five-inning victories.
The Fusion trio teamed up with Greenway and Grand Rapids All-Stars coached by Fusion coach Garrett Taschuk and Grand Rapids coach Scott Patrow in the doubleheader action to take on the All-Stars from Hibbing, Chisholm, and Cherry.
In the opening 13-8 victory, Truty went 2-3 with two singles and also stole two bases and scored twice. Treat walked once, scored once, stole two bases and had 1 RBI. Taschuk drew a walk and scored a run in the bottom of the third inning to put the team in front for good.
Game two of the doubleheader ended up a 21-13 victory. Treat pitched and gave up two hits and struck out one before Taschuk came in for relief, giving up one hit and striking out two batters.
On offense, Treat drew two walks, stole a base and scored two runs. Taschuk went 1-4 with a triple, 2 RBI and scored once. Truty went 1-3 with a single and had two walks, stole three bases and scored three runs.
Truty’s combined five stolen bases came on the heels of her speeding away with the running title in the pregame skills competition as she won the stolen base challenge in 3.19 seconds.
The Fusion ended their inaugural season with a record of 10-9. Three of those losses came at the hands of the 2011 Class “C” state champion Grand Rapids 12U team.
