Many of the baseball players who had key roles on Falls’ Junior League District Tournament championship team last week at Scheela Field will be suited up there in VFW baseball uniforms starting Friday when Falls hosts the VFW Sub-District Tournament through Sunday.

The five-team, double-elimination tournament includes the Falls, Grand Rapids, Hibbing, Nashwauk-Keewatin and Chisholm.

The tournament seedings are based on the teams’ regular season records. The top seed, Grand Rapids, will play Friday at 5 p.m. against the winner of the opening game at 11 a.m. between the No. 4-seeded Nashwauk-Keewatin and No. 5-seeded Chisholm. Falls, seeded No. 2, will face No. 3 seed Hibbing on Friday at 2 p.m.

Games are also scheduled Saturday at 11 a.m., 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. Falls would play again at 2 p.m. with a win or at 11 a.m. with a loss Friday.

The tournament concludes with two games scheduled Sunday at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.

The top three seeds coming out of this weekend’s Sub-District Tournament will advance to the eight-team, double-elimination VFW District Tournament set to begin Aug. 1 and being played in Grand Rapids and Cohasset.
