Falls’ VFW baseball team waged comebacks during the bottom of the seventh inning in both games of Wednesday’s home doubleheader against Grand Rapids, but only one was successful.

In the opening game, Falls came a run short of overcoming a six-run deficit in the final frame and lost, 8-7.

Falls pulled within a run on a bases-loaded single by Ryan Kilbride, who drove in two. But with runners on first and second with two outs, that was as close as Falls would come as Josh Potter made the final out on a called third strike.

Gunnar Anderson pitched all seven innings as he recorded the loss for the Falls.

Potter later drove in the winning run on a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh as Falls won the second game, 12-11.

Down by a run in the final frame, Kevin Kilbride advanced runners to second and third on a sacrifice bunt. Grand Rapids then elected to intentionally walk Anderson to load the bases with two outs.

Ryan Kilbride singled to deadlock the game at 11-11 as the bases remained loaded before Potter drove in Tyler Englund from third for the victory.
