The group involved in establishing an athletic hall of fame at International Falls High School agreed Tuesday to set April 14 as the date to hold a banquet to honor the first inductees.
Tuesday also marked the deadline for when nominations of a player, coach/director/advisor, at-large member or team could be submitted to the hall of fame in care of Falls athletic director Don Rolando.
He provided the group with a list of the 36 nominations that were submitted by the deadline.
Rolando, Bronco sports booster and math teacher Timm Ringhofer, Falls School Board member and former head football coach Stuart Nordquist and a few others began meeting in April of this year in an effort to set up the hall of fame.
The group had initially planned to set up a seven-member selection committee to decide who to induct into the hall of fame, with a five-sevenths majority vote required.
However, because of the low number of people attending its meetings, the group agreed on Tuesday to lower the number on the selection committee to five for the time being, with a three-fifths majority vote required for induction into the hall of fame.
The group also agreed to have the selection committee consist of Rolando, Ringhofer, Nordquist, Chris Oustad and Tim Wegner.
Only about a sixth of the nominees submitted could be among the first inductees. The group’s plans call for the selection committee to vote on no more than six nominees in the first year and no more than four in subsequent years.
To help the selection committee decide who to induct, Nordquist said he would help compile information on the nominees. A meeting for the selection committee to review the nominees has been set for Nov. 16 at 7:30 p.m. in Room 212 at FHS.
To help cover start-up costs, such as expenses related to purchasing plaques and holding banquets to honor the inductees, the group is also seeking contributions.
Ringhofer recommended Tuesday that at least $2,000 be raised to provide “plenty of cushion.”
The Falls School Board this summer approved establishing an assigned fund balance for the purpose of receiving charitable contributions for the Bronco Hall of Fame project.
It was also reported at Tuesday’s meeting that a fund-raising form, which is posted on the school district’s website, was not included in the last FHS Alumni Newsletter.
Group members discussed the possibility of sending out their own fund-raising letter to FHS Alumni. However, they took no formal action on that matter at Tuesday’s meeting.
The next meeting for the entire group has been set for Nov. 30 at 7:30 p.m. in Room 212 at FHS.
