Bronco sports fans interested in making nominations for the first inductees into an athletic hall of fame being set up at International Falls High School will be able to do so at home games over the next month.
The group involved in establishing the hall of fame agreed Wednesday to close out the nominations this year by Oct. 1, before which nomination forms would be available for fans to fill out when the Broncos are playing home games, where the group’s upcoming meeting dates will also be announced.
Group members, which include Falls athletic director Don Rolando, Bronco sports booster and math teacher Timm Ringhofer, Falls School Board member and former head football coach Stuart Nordquist and a few others, began meeting in April in an effort to set up the hall of fame.
The nomination form, which was also included this summer in the FHS Alumni Newsletter, seeks the name of a player, coach/director/advisor, at-large member or team to submit to the hall of fame in care of Rolando.
While the process of accepting nominations has begun, the details on determining who to induct into the hall of fame have yet to be finalized. The group is planning on setting up a seven-member selection committee for that purpose.
Under a written proposal the group has looked at, a five-sevenths majority vote would be required to be inducted into the hall of fame.
The proposal also would direct the selection committee to vote on a maximum number of six nominees in the first year and a maximum of four in subsequent years.
In addition to accepting nominations, the group has been seeking “seed money” to cover start-up costs, such as expenses related to purchasing plaques and holding banquets to honor the inductees.
Ringhofer reported that a hot dog cookout where donations were accepted last week outside the KSDM/KGHS radio studios raised more than $400 for the hall of fame.
The Falls School Board this summer approved establishing an assigned fund balance for the purpose of receiving charitable contributions for the Bronco Hall of Fame.
The group set its next meeting for Sept. 14 at 7:30 p.m. in Room 212 at Falls High School.
