A recent reduction from five to four baseball teams in the Junior League District Tournament that Falls will be hosting at Scheela Field from July 14-17 has resulted in the pairings and game times being changed.

Contrary to the pairings published July 9 in The Journal, Deer River is no longer among the teams in the double-elimination tournament. Falls Junior League coaches provided The Journal with a copy of the latest pairings after Saturday’s edition had already gone to print.

All four teams — Falls, Hibbing, Itasca and Greenway — are now scheduled to play Thursday.

The tournament will begin at 2 p.m. Thursday with Itasca facing Greenway. Falls is then scheduled to face Hibbing at 5 p.m.

The losers of Thursday’s games will face each other at 2 p.m. Friday, followed by the two winners facing off at 5 p.m.

The winner of Friday’s losers’ bracket will then face the loser of the winners’ bracket at noon Saturday. That winner will then face the tournament’s only undefeated team at 3 p.m.

The tournament would conclude following the 3 p.m. Saturday game if the team going in undefeated gives the other team its second loss.

If both teams end that game by having one loss in the tournament, the deciding game would be played at noon Sunday.
