Eleven women with ties to the International Falls area were among 3,000 runners Saturday in the “2011 MS Mud Run” in Dresser, Wis., at the Trollhaugen ski resort.

This 10-kilometer course consisted of 79 natural and man-made obstacles, including climbing up and sliding down steep muddy hills, as well as rivers of mud that participants waded through, crawled through or ran through.

The participants climbed log walls, jumped over logs and boulders, along with wading through trenches of muck.

Sprinkled throughout the course were the man-made challenges that included log bridges, rope swings, slat walls, rope walls, water slides and the final platform jump.

No one reportedly crossed the finish line clean after the dirty, physical challenge.

Along the course were reminders of the physical challenges people with MS face daily, to make the participants more determined to face their challenges over 10 kilometers.

This event raised approximately $500,000 to fund research, support advocacy, facilitate professional education, collaborate with MS organizations around the world and provide programs and services designed to help people with MS and their families.
