The process of nominating inductees for an athletic hall of fame being formed at International Falls High School has begun after a form for that purpose was recently published in the alumni newsletter.

It was also reported during Wednesday’s meeting involving the group working on making the hall of fame idea a reality that donations are now being accepted, though a problem with putting together the last alumni newsletter resulted in the fund-raising form having been omitted from that newsletter.

Falls athletic director Don Rolando, Bronco sports booster and math teacher Timm Ringhofer and a few others began meeting in April in an effort to set up the hall of fame. They are seeking “seed money” to cover start-up costs, such as expenses related to purchasing plaques and holding banquets to honor the inductees.

The Falls School Board last month approved establishing an assigned fund balance for the purpose of receiving charitable contributions for the Bronco Hall of Fame project.

Though the fund-raising form didn’t make it into the last alumni newsletter, it was noted at Wednesday’s meeting that both the fund-raising and nomination forms are planned for inclusion in the next newsletter.

The nomination form seeks the name of a player, coach/director/advisor, at-large member or team to submit to the hall of fame in care of Rolando.

The details on determining who to induct into the fall of fame have yet to be finalized, though the group is planning on setting up a seven-member selection committee for that purpose.

Under a written proposal the group has looked at, a five-sevenths majority vote would be required to be inducted into the hall of fame.

The proposal also would direct the selection committee to vote on a maximum number of six nominees in the first year and a maximum of four in subsequent years.

The group has not set a deadline at this point for how long it will be accepting nominations. Once the nominations are received, the group has yet to determine which ones the committee should consider for possible induction.

Group members Wednesday discussed the possibility of contacting people who make the nominations to help compile information on the backgrounds of nominees.

To help generate additional interest in the hall of fame, such as to involve more people who could end up being on the selection committee, Rolando agreed to have the public address announcers at this fall’s home sporting events mention the hall of fame and when the group’s meetings will be held.

The group set its next meeting for Aug. 24 at 7:30 p.m. in the FHS cafeteria.
