FHS alumnus in Special Olympics

A former International Falls resident and member of the Bronco track and field team, Dylan McBride, competed recently at the regional and state Special Olympic competitions held in Grand Rapids and at the University of Minnesota’s Bierman Field as part of the Virginia-area Road Runners.

At the Regional meet, McBride individually took firsts in the 100- and 200-meter dashes and finished second in the long jump, an event he usually doesn’t participate in. He also helped his team finish first in the 4x100 relay.

Individually at the State meet, McBride placed second in the 100 dash in 14.23 seconds, third in the 200 dash (31.47) and fourth in the running long jump. His 4x100 relay team took third place.

McBride said the Special Olympics is aimed at companionship and the spirit of sharing, as well as stressing the athletes do their best.

“It’s a good way to make new friends,” he said.

McBride, who was an active member of the Bronco track and field team, lettered as a senior in 2010 .
