The rain did not dampen the fund-raising efforts of a group of women on June 15 at the Falls Country Club.

A total of 41 golfers had registered to play a round of golf during the “Rally for the Cure” golf scramble, but the rain kept all but a few golfers from actually playing.

A grand total of $2,706 in donations had been collected.

A quilt, which was donated by the Whispering Pines Quilt Guild, was raffled off and awarded to Ariel Anderson. The raffle raised $661, which was donated to the local Community Cancer gas card program.

The Rally for the Cure national headquarters donated a new golf club that was awarded to Jeanne Corrin, a seven-year breast cancer survivor, and also donated a golf bag in recognition of the 10th Rally for the Cure. That latter prize was awarded to Betty Marchuk.

The group signed Rally for the Cure balloons in honor and in memory of loved ones who have battled breast cancer, and then went outside and released the balloons into the air.

The local organizers of Rally for the Cure are Martha Karsnia and Punky Stadum.
