Before he had an opportunity to play a single down in an NFL preseason game, defensive end Ty Boyle of International Falls was released Monday by the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The Steelers announced Boyle’s departure took place to make room for the acquisition of another rookie defensive end, Jarrett Crittenton of Middle Tennessee State. The 6-6, 290-pound Crittenton had been released by the Seattle Seahawks, which signed him last month as an undrafted free agent.
Boyle, who was a two-year starter at the University of North Dakota, signed with the Steelers last month as undrafted free agent.
He earned second team All-Great West Conference honors for the second straight season in 2010 after finishing with 38 tackles, a sack and an interception.
