Very-low income households in need of home repairs may qualify for a one percent home improvement loan offered by USDA, Rural Development. A qualified applicant must have an income below the established maximum income limits, demonstrate credit worthiness and be able to show repayment ability.

The program offers a maximum loan amount of up to $20,000 with a repayment term of 20 years. Loan amount is dependent upon repayment ability. No real estate mortgage is required for loans below $7,500.

Grant funds up to $7,500 may also be available for those over 62. These funds can only be used to resolve health and safety issues and assist in making homes accessible for those household members with disabilities. Grant eligibility is based upon a determination of your repayment ability.
